Ilford Film Looks

British black and white: flatter, longer-scaled and easier to print than the American equivalents.

Ilford has made monochrome film in Cheshire since the nineteenth century and still does. Its emulsions run flatter than Kodak's with more open shadows and a gentler highlight shoulder — a negative you build a print from rather than one you tame. HP5 Plus is the workhorse, FP4 Plus the classic-grain medium speed, and the Delta line the modern tabular-grain answer to T-Max.
